Writing Club

I've been thinking it would be fun to do a writing club.  I'm not sure how it would work exactly, so if anyone has ideas that would be great!  I want anyone to be able to participate and we would just communicate electronically.  Until we have a better plan, we can e-mail and use blogs.  So, here is the first prompt:

Write a short story that begins with the phrase: I found it.  It can be humorous or tragic, fiction or childhood memory; whatever.  It could even be a poem.  I am interested to see the various responses to such a simple phrase and the train of thought that it inspires.  What does it make you think of?  What does it bring to your mind?

Send your response to me via e-mail or better yet, post it on your own blog and let me know it's there with a comment on this post.  Happy writing!

What if we created a blog like "The Anderson Kitchen" where everyone can post?

A couple years ago I started an online writing group. We did it like Aimee suggested -- as a blog that people could post their writing, too. A friend and I were set as administrators, and the rest of the group were set as blog authors. The blog was private (so as to ease some of the anxiety associated with posting their writing that people had), and we had a monthly prompt (decided upon by group members on a rotating basis). The members of our group, myself included, got busy as the year progressed, and eventually the group fizzled out altogether. But it was a lot of fun while we were in the thick of things.

Okay so I thought this was a great idea but never had a chance to respond. This time when I read the prompt I was inspired to write a poem. I have been super motivated to do and be everything (cook, maid, runner, friend, poet, scholar, RD, musician, teacher, wonder mom, etc.) now that I have more energy. I just haven't figured out how to organize my time quite yet to include all these titles but I did take a few moments to jot down my first thoughts. It is rough. Very rough. But perhaps someday I can refine the words and make them beautiful so I can share them one day and people will nod their heads knowingly saying, "oh, so true!"

Here it goes:

I found it . . .

The burp cloth I dropped on our walk yesterday and didn’t even know was missing

My coupon, and my car keys so I can get diapers we ran out of 3 days ago

Her “nejo” that she refuses to go to sleep without

The reason for all those tears that wake me hour after hour at night

That happy place inside where I don’t feel the need to freak out over everything I have yet to find

Peace, solace, love and happiness amidst the craziness of life

I think you can see where I'm going with this . . .let me know what you think about the order--and the wording which is really just in brainstorming stage. Someday I'll work on it again:)
